Royal Town Planning Institute

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is a professional membership body and a UK registered charity with 18,000 members and 100 staff in London and regional centres across the UK. The RTPI exists “to advance the science and art of town planning for the benefit of the public”. 

Between 2001 and 2006 Growth International worked with the RTPI on a variety of finance and management projects. These included:
*  Development of a revised chart of accounts to accommodate changes in strategic objectives of the RTPI

*  Management Information development, including forecasting processes

*  Finance training for the Management Team

*  Presentations at Executive Board Strategy Days on Corporate Business Planning

*  Assisting with establishment of the financial procedures and reporting for Planning Aid

*  Coached / mentored the Finance Director during times of exceptional change

*  Assistance with the implementation of a major reorganisation and change management process called ‘Fitness for Purpose’ to ensure that the organisation has the appropriate structure and staffing for the future

*  Peter Desmond undertook a 6-month interim management assignment as Acting Head of Corporate Planning and Resources from January to June 2005

*  Proposal and implementation of a new networked accounting system to replace Sage Line 50 which has been in use at the RTPI for over 12 years
